Q&A: Our Lab’s Summer Vacation Experiences

1. What was your most memorable moment of summer?

“Going to Maine with my family.” – Katherine

“I once did a summer internship in the remote island of New Caledonia. It was the most beautiful place I visited in my entire life. My internship was about running statistical analysis to help protect the coral reef ecosystem. My lunch breaks where at the beach. Everyone wore shorts and flip flops to work. It was paradise on earth!” – Khalil

 “Last summer I was on co-op in New Zealand and hiked a few mountains and volcanoes. It was absolutely gorgeous! I saw “Mt. Doom” (aka the real-life Mt. Ruapehu) from ‘The Lord of the Rings’.” – Sam

2. What are your favorite memories of summer from childhood?

"My dad grew up on Cape Cod, as one of six kids, in a rambling old house from the 1760s. In the summer, we’d spend most weekends on the Cape, where I’d play in the sand all day and then fall asleep on my grandfather’s big porch. I smelled like sunscreen from June to September." - Katie

“Spending summers at the beach with my parents and brother.” – Khalil

“I really love animals, so I liked to go to the zoo when I was little. Also, sports! Soccer, street roller hockey, backyard baseball…anything outside!” – Sam


3. Growing-up, were you a fan or foe of summer camp?

“Fan! I went to French camp for 3 years and horse camp for 5!” – Katherine

4. What was the best meal you ate this summer?

“The impossible burger at the Dunn Lab outing!” [at State Park] – Katherine

"Fresh tomato and mozzarella salad." - Katie

5. What do you wish you had taken a picture of this summer?

“I always take pictures of everything!” – Khalil

6. What are you looking forward to doing on vacation this summer?

“Going riding on a beach in Ireland.” – Katherine

"I’m looking forward to swimming at the beach, visiting as many Boston farmers’ markets as possible, and BBQing every weekend." - Katie

“Fast-paced” – Katherine
